Insurance Contracts, Unified Motor Policies and Insurance Dispute Resolution
2 September, 2026
ADG Legal’s latest Practice Note, published on Lexis Nexis Middle East, covers Insurance Contracts, Unified Motor Policies and Insurance Dispute Resolution.
The UAE insurance sector has seen significant legislative changes. Federal Decree-Law No. 48/2023 on the Regulation of Insurance Activities has been repealed by Federal Decree-Law No. 6/2025, which places banking and insurance under the consolidated supervision of the Central Bank of the UAE. The substantive rules governing insurance contracts now sit within the new Civil Transactions Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 25/2025), while motor insurance remains standardised under the unified motor vehicle policies issued by the Insurance Authority.
The Practice Note, authored by Ahmed Ragab Alkotby, Partner & Head of Litigation, and Abdelmaguid Fouad, Lead Associate, covers:
- The legal framework governing insurance contracts and their parties, including conditions the law treats as void
- The rights of injured third parties under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy Against Third Party Liability
- What “comprehensive” cover actually means under the Unified Motor Vehicle Insurance Policy Against Loss and Damage
- The mandatory dispute resolution route – insurer, Sanadak, the relevant committee, and the Court of Appeal
